Tour Overview
Follow the exact geographical epic trail of the Ramayana across Sri Lanka. Led by experienced local private drivers who understand temple customs and epic lore, this 8-day itinerary takes you from Chilaw’s Shiva temples down through the central highlands to Sita Devi’s captivity site in Ashok Vatika, Ravana’s underground caves in Ella, and Hanuman’s temple in Colombo.
Day-by-Day Ramayana Itinerary
Day 1: CMB Airport ➔ Chilaw Temples (Munneswaram & Manavari) ➔ Kandy
Airport pickup. Drive north to Chilaw to venerate sacred Munneswaram Kovil and Manavari Kovil (where Lord Rama installed the first Ramalingam). Continue drive to Kandy for check-in.
Day 2: Sanjeevani Hill (Rassagala) & Kandy Sacred Sites
Visit Rassagala hill (a chunk of Sanjeevani herbs dropped by Lord Hanuman). In Kandy, explore the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.
Day 3: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya via Ramboda Hanuman Temple
Drive up the scenic mountain highway. Visit Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda (built by Chinmaya Mission where Hanuman searched for Sita). Check into Nuwara Eliya hotel.
Day 4: Seetha Amman Kovil, Ashok Vatika & Divurumpola
Visit Seetha Amman Kovil in Sita Eliya, Hakgala Botanical Gardens (Ashok Vatika), and Divurumpola (the sacred place of Sita Devi's Agni Pariksha test).
Day 5: Nuwara Eliya to Ella ➔ Ravana Cave & Falls
Drive down to Ella. Explore the ancient Ravana Cave tunnels and marvel at the cascading waters of Ravana Ella Falls.
Day 6: Ella to Kataragama Shrine Excursion
Drive south to Kataragama to visit the sacred Kataragama Temple complex (dedicated to Lord Murugan/Skanda, worshipped by King Ravana).
Day 7: Drive to Colombo ➔ Sri Anjaneyar & Kelaniya Temples
Drive to commercial capital Colombo. Visit Sri Anjaneyar Temple (dedicated to Lord Hanuman with Panchamuga idol) and Kelaniya Temple (where Vibhishana was crowned king).
Day 8: Colombo Shopping & CMB Airport Departure
Enjoy souvenir shopping in Colombo before a short transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for your departure flight.
